The bare number
This is the identifier on its own: letter, seven digits, letter. Everybody who deals with Spain gets one, EU or not. By itself it is simply a reference printed on paper — useful, but not proof that you live anywhere.
The EU resident's green paper or card
EU, EEA and Swiss residents who settle in Sevilla receive a green A4 sheet or a small green card. It carries the NIE number plus your registered address, and it confirms you are enrolled as an EU resident in Andalusia.
The TIE card
Anyone from outside the EU gets a TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero): an actual plastic card with your photo, fingerprint, NIE number and the type and validity of your permit. For non-EU residents of Sevilla, this is the document to keep on you.
