Where to spot it
On a TIE card it opens with the letter E and a run of digits (think E12345678), printed on the front or the reverse of the card.
On the green EU certificate it is the IXESP / C-number reference. On the older A4 versions look near the top for a line marked "Nº de soporte".
What it actually does
It is the key that proves your identity on digital services — registering with Cl@ve, the immigration portal, and a heap of Junta de Andalucía and university platforms. Skip it and most online procedures simply will not let you through.
